Will Medicare cover my nursing home stay?

Medicare Part A pays for your nursing home stay if you spend three or more days in the hospital and are over the age of 65. Day one to 20 are covered 100 percent, and day 21 to 100 are covered 80 percent. Medicare coverage continues as long as you are making progress in therapy, and/or have an acute medical need that is being treated daily. This is the same for any skilled nursing facility in the United States.

How do I choose a nursing home?

When choosing a nursing home, the most important thing to do is visit and ask for a tour. There are many Web sites that provide a checklist that you can print out ahead of time so that you know what to look for. If you have specific needs, such as rehabilitation or memory care, make sure that the home you choose specializes in that type of care.

What’s the difference between skilled and assisted care?

Assisted care can provide a variety of scheduled services and monitoring in both the medical and social arenas. Skilled care focuses on rehabilitation and/or skilled nursing service and offers monitoring 24 hours a day.

What types of activities and programs are offered at both?

Activities to meet the social, spiritual and emotional needs of each individual ranging from in house music, crafts and gardening to community shopping trips, dinners and sport and theatre events. A variety of different levels of activity programs are available to meet the likes and needs of each person. 1:1 groups to larger community events.

What types of medical help is provided in assisted living units?

Licensed nurses are available at set times during the day to assist with monitor and coordination of medical and wellness services to partner with you and your healthcare team. Staff are also available to assist throughout the day with medication administration.

How do you choose between assisted care and skilled nursing care?

Let us help you. When you apply for residency on our campus our trained staff will complete an assessment and guide you in the proper direction both short and long term. Our campus environment allows for our team to meet and make ongoing recommendation for placement based on level of need and services offered.

Can personal items including furniture be brought to assisted living units?

We encourage you to make your assisting living unit warm and comfortable with personal furniture and belongings. Our maintenance staff can assist you with hanging of pictures to make it home!

Are pets allowed in assisted living units?

Our pet policy allows pets to visit.

What’s the policy on guests visiting?

Guests may visit at any time, join you for a meal and participate in activity programming. We would be happy to make recommendations to you and your guests in arranging overnight accommodations at a local hotel. Just call our reception staff for more information.
